Breed characteristics

The breed in general

Glan cattle, mainly domiciled in Rhineland-Palatinate, are a traditional breed of domesticated cattle.

Color:

Glan cattle are unicolored from light yellow to dark yellow with transition to red. They have a light muzzle, brightenings on the eye, nose, lower belly and on the inside of the legs.

Polled status:

The animals have horns by nature.

Body:

Glan cattle are medium-sized to framy. The head is relatively wide and short with broad muzzle. The top line is strong, the ischium is somewhat deeper. Chest and flank are deep, the shoulder is strong and feet & legs are correct and dry.

Production traits:

Glan cattle are robust, frugal and known for good fertility, longevity. They have a calm temperament. Moreover, they have good feed intake capacity and good calving ease with special maternal qualities. High carcase yield and low fat deposits on the carcase are further advantages. The meat is tender, well-marbled and fine-grained resulting in delicious taste and low cooking loss.
