Breed characteristics

The breed in general

The Blonde d’Aquitaine breed originates from the southwest of France.

Color:

Plain light yellow to wheat coloring with brightening around the eyes and muzzle. They are light underneath the belly and on the inside of their limbs. Black hair or white marks are not desired.

Polled status:

Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle both have horns and are genetically polled. Cattle with horns have slightly forward-sloping, bent, ivory-colored horns with darker tips.

Body:

Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle show a framy type. The distinctive body and rump length and distinctive muscularity in all meat body parts make the animals’ body appear like a rectangular in shape. The coat is short and smooth.

Production traits:

This cattle breed can be kept without any problems. They are calm and trouble-free and have good adaptability regarding climate and feed. Due to the wide rumps Blonde d’Aquitaine cows are characterized by easy calvings with vital calves.

Excellent meat quality with low fat, fine meat fibres and a high dressing percentage are characteristic. The long-lasting, efficient animals are suitable for crossings with dairy and beef breeds to improve slaughter yields.
